2021 has seen many things opening back up with some resemblance of normalcy pre-pandemic.  One of those things is the biggest amateur radio event of the year, ARRL Field Day.

In the Mississippi section this year, we show 6 Field Day sites that will be setup from the Mississippi Gulf Coast up to the Tennessee state line.  The details and contact information for each site can be found on the ARRL site at arrl.org/field-day-locator. Here are the locations;

1. Ocean Springs, MS

2. Brandon, MS

3. West Point, MS

4. Tupelo, MS

5. Corinth, MS

During the January 14th Magnolia ARC meeting, the club awards administrator, Allen McBroom (AG5ND) presented Jarrod Marsh (AE5LG) with a certificate and badge for his now ARRL Mississippi Section appointment as Oktibbeha County Emergency Coordinator (EC).

Jarrod has experience and training that suit him well for this position and he will be coordinating ARES club meetings and trainings throughout the year to support the local amateur radio emergency response efforts.

Amateur Radio in 2021

As the new year is underway we have already seen some changes headed our way in the amateur radio world with the new $35 fees from FCC.  Solar Cycle 25 has shown some promise as we have seen a number of days over the last couple of months with a solar flux index above 90, so those DX contacts may grow in great numbers over the next couple of years as long as you keep active.

Congratulations to Josh, KF4KQS, for receiving Ham of the Year honors during our December 10th club meeting.  Josh has been great benefit and friend all around the Golden Triangle amateur radio community this year.  He's helped many of the hams around here on everything from antennas and towers to rebuilding old radios.  He is a great example of what a good amateur radio operator is.

Radio in the Park

Local hams will gather at Old Waverly landing, in West Point, on Saturday morning beginning around 8 AM for some radio fun. There will be several hf rigs setup and several antennas as well, so it's a great opportunity to get your hands on some different equipment than what you may have used before.

Another fun thing  to do is build an antenna on the spot and make a contact.  Nothing quite as exciting as building an antenna the day of and making contacts with something you made.  Whatever it is you want to do, come on out and join the fun, socializing, and outdoors.
